There is nothing better then taking in a baseball game in the middle of summer with your son. Today I got a surprise offer of two premium tickets to this afternoons Tigers game which was too good of an offer to pass up. With the Tigers struggling and the tearing down and rebuilding of the team underway, it was our chance to see some of our local hero’s for perhaps the last time in the Tigers Old English D.
The game did not disappoint. The Tigers pulled out the win against the Houston Astros, one of the best teams in baseball this year. Matthew Boyd pitched a strong game for the Tigers going 7.1 innings and only allowing 3 runs. Victor Martinez did the damage on the offensive end, going 3-4 with an RBI. Shane Greene and Justin Wilson helped close out the game and preserve the win for Boyd.
My son Matthew enjoyed the game very much. In addition to it being a James McCann bobblehead game, which any Little League catcher would love to attend, my son was fortunate to catch a foul ball off the bat of his other Favorite Tigers catcher, Alex Avila. In what would end up being Avila’s last at-bat as a Tiger, this was obviously a great thrill for Matthew.
A great summer day, a Tigers win, and a foul ball (and bobblehead) helped make this a game to remember!
